According to the EPA, the 2006 Scion xB automatic emits 6.6 tons of CO2 for every 15,000 miles driven: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/2008car1tablef.jsp?id=22127

The 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid emits 4.4 tons of CO2 for every 15,000 miles driven: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/compx2008f.jsp?year=2008make=Hondamodel=Civic%20Hy bridhiddenField=Findacar

Basically the Civic Hybrid emits about 33% less CO2 than the Scion xB.

Personally I'd rather go with a Toyota Prius than the Civic Hybrid though. The Civic Hybrid uses a friction-belt-driven CVT transmission and torque converter, while the Prius uses a toothgeared PSD transmission with the electric motor directly geared to the wheels (which is simpler and more durable).

And the 2009 Prius emits 4.0 tons of CO2 for every 15,000 miles driven: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/compx2008f.jsp?year=2009make=Toyotamodel=Priushidd enField=Findacar
