thanks for your help!? I'm stuck between the two, they are basically the same car in my eyes, the scion xd is just for a younger audience...would you see any other major differences that would make a difference to me? do you know how the safety is on the two cars?

The XB is a larger car. The Matrix is a smaller station wagon. Both are safe. If it was me, I would go for the XB in a heart beat. But then, I am just a toyota Dealer in Atlanta.

The newer Matrix now has an available 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine. But it still carries over the same 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine from the previous year (used on base and mid-level models). The new xD also carries the 1.8 liter, but the xD is a tad smaller, so it helps on fuel economy. The Matrix is more of a family wagon, while the xD is a little bit on the quirky side. I would recommend the xD because it is a bit cheaper than the Matrix.
By the way, the xD recently received high marks for resale value and crash protection ratings.
